Cathy Saldana is a graduate of BS Architecture from the University of the Philippines Diliman, where she finished with a Student Leadership Medal in 1990. She completed her Masters in Enterprise Management at the Asian Institute of Management in the year 2000 with Honors.
Cathy is currently one of the owners and Directors of Arco Group and PDP Architects, a strong team of 180 staff engaged in the design of hotels, resorts, residential, industrial, corporate, medical tourism, retail and mixed use developments ( www.arcogrp.com ). She co-leads their local design studio with clients like Ayala Land, Filinvest, SM, First Philippine Holdings, The Lopez Group, Discovery, Shangrila Resorts and others. She has worked on various ground-up and renovations for hospitality design and technical services for Shangri-la Mactan, EDSA, Makati and Boracay, Heritage, Pan Pacific, the Crowne Plaza in 2004-2006, Global Estates and boutique and restaurant chains. On her current plate their teams are working in El Nido, Palawan, Coron, Sicogon, Punta Fuego, Batangas and Manila.
She also co-manages an Architectural BPO outsourcing team doing collaborative design work and renderings with Architects and Interior Designers from New York, Dubai, London, Singapore, HK and other major cities. From June 2010 to April 2015, she was also Consultant and Principal of Ted Jacob Engineering Group, based in San Francisco, CA. Cathy was the lead for all Southeast Asian projects of this engineering firm. In 2011-2013, she was the Southeast Asia Representative and Consultant of FORREC, the world’s leading designer for entertainment design, amusement parks and attractions.
Cathy, as a writer, was one of the pioneering writers of Bluprint design magazine in 1997-2003, Mega Publications in 1996-2000 and the lifestyle section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer from 1996-2004. Her paper on Coastal Development Guidelines and Island Design for Coron, Palawan was selected by the University of Florence, College of Architecture in Italy in a Call for Papers which then led to a presentation in November 2015 at the Duomo in Firenze, Italy.
She has served in the United Architects of the Philippines in various capacities on chapter and national committee positions, and with the Architects Regional Council of Asia and the AIA. She has served as President of the UP Architecture Alumni Foundation. She has been a regular speaker on hospitality design, sustainability, marketing communications and architectural outsourcing in the Philippines and internationally.
Cathy’s thrust towards sustainable architecture, research-based design, communications and collaborative teamwork is linked to her goal of giving the Filipino Architect a world-class brand.
